Editsay FAQ

Plain answers about starting and running a news publication with Editsay.

Getting started

What is Editsay?

Editsay is a publishing platform for news. It gives you a news website under your own name and domain, an AI-assisted newsroom that drafts stories in your tone from the sources you choose, and automatic posting of each story to your Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube accounts, with reels. You approve every story before it goes out. Editsay is built in Hyderabad.

Who is Editsay for?

Independent journalists, media founders starting a publication, and organisations that need a news site of their own, such as a party office or a communications team. A publication can be one person or a full desk: plans run from one user to unlimited users. Who it's for describes seven kinds of publisher and how each one runs Editsay.

How do I start a news website in Telugu, Hindi or English?

Send a request from the form on the home page, with your market and language. We set up your publication with your brand, domain and categories. You then connect your sources and your social accounts, review the first drafts, and publish when they read right. Every publication publishes in English and can add one second language, such as Telugu or Hindi.

How long does it take to launch?

About two weeks, not months. The first week goes into writing down your editorial rules: what you cover, what you leave alone, how you handle a rumour. The second goes into story templates, social accounts, your second language, users and your site. You go live when the drafts read like your own, on a date you choose. You do not need a developer at any stage.

Do I need a developer or a technical team?

No. We set up the platform, your site and your social accounts with you, and the daily work happens in the Editsay studio in your browser: reading drafts, editing them and publishing. A developer is useful only if you decide to build your own site or app on the Editsay Content API instead of having us build and host the site for you.

How it works

Does the AI write the articles?

It drafts them. Editsay reads the sources you choose and writes drafts in your publication's tone and stance, through your own story templates. Every draft goes into a review queue. Nothing is published, on your website or on social media, until a person on your team approves it, and there is no setting that changes that.

Can I set my own editorial tone and stance?

Yes. You set them once for each publication: the tone your stories are written in, and your stance on each party, leader, institution or issue you cover. Every draft follows those settings. Most of the first week of setting up is spent writing these rules down with you, because most publications have never had them on paper.

Does Editsay post to social media?

Yes. When a story is published, Editsay writes a separate caption for each account and posts it to Facebook, Instagram and X. On the Newsroom and Network plans it also turns the story into a narrated vertical reel with captions and posts it, including to YouTube. The accounts are your own, connected once during setup, and a channel that stops posting is flagged on the publish screen.

Which languages are supported?

Every publication publishes in English and adds one second language of its choice, such as Telugu or Hindi, chosen at setup. Each story and its reel narration come out in both. Dumtika, the Telugu entertainment publication that runs on Editsay, publishes in English and Telugu. If you need a language we have not set up before, say so in the request form.

Can I run more than one publication?

Yes. Each publication has its own site, sources, tone, social accounts and plan, and all of them run on the same platform. You can add a publication when you start another one, and add people to any of them as your team grows, from one user on the Desk plan to unlimited users on Network.

Plans and support

What does it cost?

Plans start at ₹24,000 per month for one publication, plus GST, with a discount on annual billing. The plans differ in the number of users, how many stories a day can be published hands-off, reels and support. The Pricing section of the home page sets out each plan. If you want us to build and host your site, that is quoted separately.

Where is Editsay based?

In Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Editsay is a registered MSME. The platform was built inside Dumtika, a Telugu entertainment publication, and that newsroom still publishes on it every day. You can write to us at hello@editsay.com or reach us through the form on the home page.
